Election 2026 – The nominations Pakistan
Arif Ali Arain
I am a pharmacy leader with over 20 years of experience, currently serving as Head of Pharmacy Services at a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan. My professional focus has been on advancing oncology pharmacy services, strengthening medication safety systems, and improving clinical outcomes for cancer patients.
In oncology practice, I have led the development and standardization of chemotherapy preparation and administration processes in alignment with international safety standards, including USP <797> and USP <800>. I played a key role in establishing and upgrading sterile compounding facilities to ensure safe handling of hazardous drugs, minimize contamination risks, and enhance staff and patient safety.
I have been actively involved in multidisciplinary oncology teams, collaborating with oncologists, nurses, and quality departments to optimize chemotherapy protocols, supportive care regimens, and medication therapy management. My contributions include implementing double-check systems, barcode verification processes, and pharmacovigilance practices to reduce medication errors and improve treatment accuracy.
In addition, I have contributed to capacity building by training pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and nursing staff in oncology pharmacy practices, safe cytotoxic handling, dose calculations, and adverse event monitoring. I strongly advocate for expanding the clinical role of oncology pharmacists to improve patient-centered care.
I have also represented oncology pharmacy at national and international platforms, sharing insights on sterile compounding, operational efficiency, and quality improvement initiatives. My commitment remains focused on strengthening oncology pharmacy services, enhancing operational excellence, and ensuring safe, evidence-based cancer care for underserved populations.
Through leadership, innovation, and collaboration, I continue to work toward elevating oncology pharmacy practice standards and improving outcomes for patients battling cancer.
