Deogratias Katabalo
Mr. Deogratias M. Katabalo is a clinical pharmacist, academic lecturer, and researcher based in Mwanza, Tanzania. He currently serves as a lecturer at the School of Pharmacy of the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS). In his academic role, he teaches courses in pharmacokinetics, therapeutics, and clinical pharmacy, while also mentoring undergraduate pharmacy students in research and clinical practice.
Mr. Katabalo is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Pharmacy at CUHAS under the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project. His doctoral research focuses on the association of nutritional status, pharmacogenomics, and supportive care medicine prescription practices with the development of chemotherapy-induced toxicities in children with cancer undergoing treatment in Mwanza, Tanzania. His work aims to improve treatment outcomes for pediatric cancer patients in low-resource settings by integrating clinical pharmacology, genomics, and nutritional assessment.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he actively participates in clinical pharmacy services at Bugando Medical Centre, particularly in pediatric and oncology units. His research interests include pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, pediatric oncology pharmacy, supportive care in cancer treatment, and rational use of medicines. Through his work, he seeks to contribute to evidence-based clinical practice and strengthen pharmaceutical care for vulnerable patient populations.
Mr. Katabalo has authored and co-authored more than twenty peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals. His scholarly contributions include studies on chemotherapy-related toxicities, nutritional status among pediatric cancer patients, pharmacogenomic variability in African populations, and antimicrobial stewardship. Some of his work has appeared in high-impact journals such as Lancet Oncology and other reputable global health publications.
Beyond research and teaching, he is committed to professional development, academic collaboration, and capacity building in clinical pharmacy and oncology care in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Kauke Zimbwe
I am a Clinical Trials Control and Pharmacovigilance officer at TMDA and a clinical pharmacist specialising in infectious diseases, haematology/oncology, and bone marrow transplantation. I am a PhD fellow at the University of Antwerp, researching Antimicrobial Stewardship in pediatric oncology in Africa. I have experience as a Fleming Fund Fellowship alumnus studying antimicrobial use in human health and have trained at St. Jude Global Academy on infectious disease management. I am a member of the WHO Technical Advisory Group on AWaRe and an SME for sickle cell disease at the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association. I lead a global pharmaceutical mentorship program and contributed to Tanzania’s 2021 Standard Treatment Guidelines and Essential Drug List. I participated in the Tanzania antimicrobial stewardship working group and worked with the International Vaccine Institute on AMR policy. My research focuses on clinical pharmacy in haematology-oncology and antimicrobial resistance surveillance. Previously, I was assistant director of pharmacy at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, leading the oncology and hematology units.
